How We Build
A sand volleyball court is mostly about what's underneath the sand. Drainage is what separates a court that plays well in April from one that's a swamp all winter.
We dig out the court to depth, install a perforated drain field and gravel base so water moves through the sand instead of sitting on top of it.
Timber, composite, aluminum, or concrete edging keeps sand in the court and grass or gravel out. We pick the material based on budget and traffic.
Washed, screened volleyball-grade sand — not construction sand or beach sand, which compact hard or hold too much moisture. Filled and leveled to spec depth.
Sleeve-mounted steel posts, a regulation net system, and boundary lines set with in-ground anchors or surface tape depending on your preference.

Sand courts fail in this climate for one reason more than any other: bad drainage. We treat it as the most important part of the build, not an afterthought.
Perforated pipe tied into a proper outlet, not just a rock layer and hope. Courts drain within hours of heavy rain instead of staying soggy for days.

Every site is different, so these are general ranges. We give you a real number after we visit.
Backyard Court
30' x 60', typical residential site
1-2 weeks build time. Higher end for tougher site access or premium edging materials.
Regulation Court
Full AVP/USAV dimensions
2-3 weeks build time. Deeper sand bed and heavier-duty post systems drive most of the variance.
Ranges assume reasonable site access and standard finishes. Permits, extensive drainage work, and multi-court layouts add to the project total.

Washed, screened volleyball-grade sand. It's specified for grain size and roundness so it's soft for diving but drains well — regular play sand, beach sand, or construction sand aren't the same thing and compact or hold water.
With proper drainage underneath, yes. That's the whole reason we treat drainage as the most important part of the build in this climate rather than an add-on.
A backyard court runs about 12" of sand depth; regulation courts typically use 16"-18". We calculate exact volume once we confirm your court dimensions on site.

Yes, if the base and drainage underneath are sound we can add or replace sand without rebuilding the whole court. If drainage is the problem, we'll tell you honestly rather than just adding sand on top of a bad base.
